God often asks His prophets to do or endure circumstances that seem foolish or extreme to us. Hosea was told to marry a prostitute, and Isaiah was told to preach to the people in a loincloth! In chapter 16, God asks Jeremiah to socially distance himself from all the things that make life worthwhile: marriage and family and celebrating and mourning with others. Why would God exclude Jeremiah from these things? What good could come from his exclusion?
