Jeremiah tells Judah that judgment begins with the people of God and then goes out to the ends of the earth. No one will escape the wrath of God. Sounds like a great message. But mixed in all the bad is something good. For Judah, that means after 70 years, there will be a homecoming, but what about the nations? The picture he paints is pretty bleak. But never forget—the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin (Ex 34:6–7).
